I KNOW IT’S OVER. 05/10/13
Hard as it may be to believe, this song was playing on my iPod as I sat in the car outside STBXs’ lawyers’ office on May 1st waiting for everyone to turn up. Appropriate, wouldn’t you say? We were meeting so we could sign all 4 copies of the final agreement that would bring our marriage to a close. There were five of us in the room, as the financial guy was there as well. Not out of any legal necessity, but because he happened to be on the island that day and wanted to be there as an acknowledgement of the end of the process.
I say “Process”, but in truth there was nothing to it. We’d seen all the documents before and there was no need to review them yet again, so the copies were merely circulated between us, notarised, and we each received our own copy. That’s how the marriage ended – like the world: not with a bang, but a whimper.
